Computer Crime

If your client has been charged with a criminal computer offense such as, but not limited to, possession of child pornography, exposing a child to harmful materials on a computer, or using a computer to facilitate a sex crime, due dilligence as a legal professional dictates that you must have the computer media that was either an instrument or location of the alleged crime examined by a competent, certified and experienced professional Computer Forensic Examiner/Analyst. The evidence on its face is not always what it seems. Odenthal Investigations has been investigating these types of cases since Computer Forensics was in it's infancy.

Civil Litigations involving computers are most commonly the alleged theft of corporate computer data which is moved to a new company for use by that company in order to get an edge on the competition. Through the use of Computer Forensics and Analysis on the computers used by the subject at the plaintiff company it is possible to get a fairly accurate profile of the activity leading to the departure of the subject. Odenthal Investigations has been retained on numerous cases such as this for plaintiff and defense, including as a Special Master, resulting in the successful resolution of the majority of cases.

Computer Forensics

Computer Forensics is the art and science of discovering deleted, hidden and lost data on Computer Media. While it is difficult to rid computer media of this data, time is of the essence here as well. While deleted data is not really deleted, it is available to be overwritten by new data. The more the computer is used after the data is deleted the higher the chance that the deleted data will be overwritten with new data.

Searching computers for data without the right tools and training can ruin it as evidence in court. Just booting up a Windows computer can cause changes to dozens of files including date and time stamps. If you have changed data, date and time stamps on evidence that later becomes evidence in a court proceeding it may end up not being accepted as viable evidence.

If you suspect a computer has been used for criminal purposes DO NOT boot up or look at it yourself. Odenthal Investigations LLC has the tools, training and experience to maintain the chain of custody, ensure the integrity of the evidence and analyze it to ensure the evidence remains true and viable.

Odenthal Investigations LLC has Investigated Computer Crimes and performed Computer Forensic Analysis' for some of the best and brightest attorneys and largest corporations in the nation.
